US President Joe Biden arrives in Vietnam today

After landing at Noi Bai airport on the afternoon of September 10, US President Joe Biden and his accompanying delegation will move to the Presidential Palace to attend the State Welcome Ceremony.

On September 10, US President Joe Biden left New Delhi (India) to depart for Noi Bai airport (Hanoi) in the afternoon of the same day, beginning a two-day state visit to Vietnam.

It is expected that President Biden and his accompanying delegation will travel from Noi Bai airport to the Presidential Palace to attend the State Welcome Ceremony. Later, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and US President Joe Biden will hold talks at the Party Central Committee headquarters.

In service of US President Joe Biden’s visit to Vietnam, in recent days, many US C-17 heavy military transport aircraft have landed consecutively at Noi Bai airport (Hanoi) to bring many goods and specialized vehicles.

Just before arriving in Vietnam, President Biden arrived in India on the evening of September 8 to attend the agenda at the G9 Summit. The delegation accompanying the president were National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung, during his visit on 10/11-9, President Joe Biden will have important talks and meetings with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior leaders of the Party and State as well as activities with businesses and people.

The two sides also reviewed the comprehensive partnership in various fields and set out orientations for relations in the coming time. The content focuses on scientific-technological, economic-trade and investment cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and overcoming war consequences.

“This will open a new chapter in VietnamUS relations, while creating more favorable objective conditions for Vietnam to gradually assert a higher position in the regional and global value chain,” Dung said.

At the same time, the two sides plan to jointly organize activities of exchanging war memorabilia and meetings between technology enterprises; signing many important economic agreements and contracts that can be worth billions of dollars.

Vietnam and the United States normalized relations in 1995 and established a comprehensive partnership in 2013.

In 2022, two-way trade reached $123 billion, up nearly 300 times from $450 million in 1995. Vietnam also quickly rose to become America’s 7th largest trading partner and the largest U.S. trading partner in ASEAN.

Also since 2002, the US has become Vietnam’s largest export market. By 2022, Vietnam’s exports to the US have reached 100 billion USD.

In terms of investment, the US is always in the top investors in Vietnam. As of 2022, there is more than $11 billion in U.S. direct investment in Vietnam, not counting investments through U.S. company branches from third countries.

Health and education cooperation is also considered a bright spot in the past 10 years, the two countries have shared to help each other during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has supported the US with medical protective gear and masks; The US has donated nearly 40 million vaccine doses to Vietnam.

Vietnam has more than 30,000 students studying in the US, ranking 5th among the countries with the most international students in this country. The United States also organizes many educational projects in Vietnam, including Fulbright University and sends volunteers to teach English in the Peace Corps.
